MR & MRS MEADOWCROFT WIN SOLAR COMPETITION
Climate Week Competition Winners Install
The lucky winners of our Solar PV competition held in March in support of ClimateWeek were Mr & Mrs Meadowcroft from Newcastle-under-Lyme.
On 1st June 2011 we installed a 6 panelled 1.11kWp Perlight Solar PV system complete with a Grant Inverter. The system is predicted toproduce 781.24kWh a year.
The panels were fitted to the roof on the front of their property and all of the products fitted are compliant to MCS standards to ensure their qulaification to the Feed-in-Tariff.
"We are delighted to have won this competition. We are still in shock, it feels like we have won the lotterybecause not only will we benefit from cheaper electricity but we will also receive an income for the next 25 years. Phoenix RenewableTechnologies were outstanding in their service and treated us as valued customers. The fitters were pleasant, polite, clean and tidy." A quote from Mr & Mrs Meadowcroft.
We initially ran the competition to raise awareness of renewable energy alternatives as by the year 2050 the UK Climate Change Act wants to have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below 1990 baseline levels. By the year 2020 they hope to have reduced it by 34%. These goals are tough and it will not be easy, tht’s why we need to raise as much awareness as we can. The biggest carbon emitters are households and with more knowledge and communication we can drastically reduce the UK populations Carbon Footprint and help to fight the battle in reducing carbon emissions.
Your Carbon Footprint is the amount of CO2 that enters the atmosphere because of the electricity and fuel you use. Too much CO2 in the air leads to Climate Change and Global Warming. The obvious steps to reduce your Carbon Footprint are to insulate your home, mainly the walls and loft; this will also significantly reduce your heating bills. You can turn your thermostat down by just one degree and save 10% on bills. Even just turning down the brightness and contrast on TV’s can reduce your carbon emissions, along with only filling your kettle to the required level. But the biggest way to not only reduce your carbon emissions, but to also save and in some cases make money, is to generate your own energy through renewable technologies.
The sun as a natural resource is completely FREE and by installing a Solar PV system the homeowner can produce FREE green electricity that in many cases will be sufficient enough to run their home. Plus there is the added bonus of the FiT which could be in excess of £1200 a year providing the homeowner with a return of 4-5 times their initial investment and this is guaranteed for 25 years.
