Using Your Generated Electricity
Now that you are generating your own electricity it is important that to make sure that whenever possible that you use your own and not that provided by your electricity provider, after all using your own was the prime objective of installing your system and is the way to increase your financial benefit from your investment.
During daylight hours your system is generating electricity. Using that electricity efficiently is important. Listed below are some guidelines to assist you:-
1. It is important to establish how many KWs each of your appliances use per hour. This primarily applies to larger appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers, dish washers etc...
2. Make sure that when you are using your appliances their total usage per KWh does not exceed the amount of electricity you are generating.
3. Whenever possible use the highest KWh appliances individually, i.e. do not have your washing machine, tumble dryer, dish washer on at the same time.
4. If possible some of the appliances you use during the evening use them during the day.
5. Smaller appliances still use electricity even when on stand-by. These will now use your generated electricity.
6. Your installation produces cleaner electricity then that supplied from your energy supplier and your appliances will always when possible use your cleaner electricity. Of course not only is this cost effective in terms of usage but also in the fact that your appliances will have an increased life span.
7. Remember that electricity generated but not used is still of a financial benefit as it will be exported back to the grid and you will be paid for what you export.
We are positive that you will very quickly enjoy the benefits of your installation and over time you will find additional ways to further benefit.
At Phoenix Renewable Technologies we respect that you chose our company as your supplier and will continue to advise you of any additional benefits we establish.
MAIN ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND THE KWh USAGE
Working out where you use your energy at home will help you identify where you spend your money and more importantly where you can save it. To work out how you spend your money simply follow as the below.
Electricity is sold by the unit; one kilowatt (kW) of electricity used for one hour is one unit, a kilowatt hour (kWh). Your electricity meter records the number of units you've used.
Gas meters measure the volume of gas you've used in cubic meters/feet. On your bill it shows how the volume is converted into units.
The following tables give some examples of the running costs of typical household items. To calculate the cost of running each item, simply multiply the units (kWhrs) by the unit cost on your bill. Please note: these figures are just indicative. For more accurate results you need to take the rating of your appliances from the manufacturer's information, or you can borrow an energy monitor from the library.
